Middlesbrough have appointed Neil Warnock as the club's new manager. The 71-year-old replaces Jonathan Woodgate, who was sacked last week.

Warnock has managed eight clubs in the Premier League and has a wealth of experience in the game. He was most recently with Cardiff City.

Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson said: “We have appointed Neil Warnock as the new manager of Middlesbrough Football Club.

"We believe Neil is the right man to take us forward and he has the experience and knowledge to help us achieve our goals.

"He has an outstanding track record of success and we are looking forward to him bringing that to Middlesbrough."

Warnock said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to manage Middlesbrough Football Club.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of getting the club back to the Premier League and working with Steve Gibson and the team to make that happen. I cannot wait to get started."
